REVIEW & SWATCHES: Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips

Hello beauty lovers!

After weeks of waiting, I finally got my Colourpop packages in the mail, including 3 of the brand new Ultra Satin Lips. I held off on making this post because I wanted to test them out for a few days to see how they wore and, because I made 2 orders, I wanted to wait until I had all 3 colours that I ordered to swatch them all together. Now that I've got all 3 shades in my possession and have a good opinion of the formula, let's get into the review.

The Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips retail for US$6 each at www.colourpop.com. They are packaged exactly the same as the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips and contain the same amount of product with 3.2g.

I purchased the shades Echo Park (warm mid-tone peach nude), Frick N' Frack (rosy terracotta) , and Lyin' King (vibrant raspberry). The formula does not have a prominent scent, is very soft and applies extremely smoothly. I did find that the texture of the lipsticks wasn't consistent across all 3 colours. Echo Park had a thicker, more moussy consistency, much like the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. On the other hand, Frick N' Frack and Lyin' King are much thinner in consistency, almost water-like, similar to the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips. With that said, the consistency of each individual lipstick does not compromise the intensity and opacity of any the shades and they all apply opaque with one swipe.

Due to their satin finish, they do not dry down completely and feel just slightly tacky on the lips. If anyone knows me. I hate liquid lipsticks that dry tacky, but the Ultra Satins are a comfortable kind of tacky. While they are a bit sticky, they don't feel like my lips are being glued together, nor do I feel like chunks of product are coming off of the bottom lip to the top and vice versa due to the tackiness. The formula is also super moisturizing and becomes even more comfortable as you wear it throughout the day.

Unfortunately, because of the satin finish, they are not transfer-proof and will end up transferring onto anything your lips touch; however, they all wear absolutely amazingly throughout the day. They're extremely long-wearing and fade evenly throughout the day but never fade off completely. I noticed very minimal feathering in the corners of my mouth, so applying a lip liner beforehand might be a good idea, especially for the darker colours in the collection. I also noticed that by the end of the day, the "white line" that appears on the inner part of the lips with most liquid lipsticks was very noticeable and gave me the dreaded "butthole lips" lol. This didn't particularly bother me because this line disappeared with a quick touch up. The product was very easy to reapply/touch up and didn't crumble or become excessively sticky when I applied another layer.

Overall, I think they're a great liquid lipstick formula, especially for those of you who are prone to chapped lips and can't wear matte liquid lipsticks for prolonged periods of time. I'm definitely considering picking up more colours in the collection (after my month-long no buy). I am in love with the new Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips, so much so that I think I like the Ultra Satins more than the Ultra Mattes.

Did you pick up any Ultra Satins? What do you think of the formula? Do you like a liquid satin formula better than a liquid matte? Let me know!

Marian
